The Royal House of Orange
Queen of Pumpkins
Last Pumpkin Patch, Third Row

Dear “Squashbucklers”:

Over the past few years, I have been watching from the wings and am now ready to take my rightful place in the Giant Pumpkin Parade.

Yes, this letter is to confirm that the “Queen of Pumpkins” will be in attendance. I will be honored to represent the Royal House of Orange. I would not miss it for the world.

Finally, pumpkins are being celebrated for the wonders that they are. Their size — bulging, even bursting, at the seams. Think of their color: the orange of the harvest moon. Their tantalizing vines, voluptuous leaves, and beckoning tentacles.

Oh, the glory of the pumpkin! Only Linus gave true honor to the Great Pumpkin.

I have rearranged my itinerary to include this appearance in Damariscotta. Oh, so many royal obligations. Mine is a busy Queen’s life. I am not like the queen bee who languishes in regal splender inside her honey-pilled hive.

I am oh, so very busy visiting pumpkin patches, encouraging little pumpkins to grow. So much morale to keep up. The worries of sun and rain.

You at Damariscotta Pumpkinfest need not worry. The dress will be ready. It must be new, resplendent in pumpkin orange organza. The royal pumpkin seamstresses have been working night and day…yards of fabric, fittings, adjustments. No pumpkin pie for me or they will have to let it out!

I hope that you-squashbucklers are making the necessary arrangements at your end to handle all the pomp and circumstance I expect to bring to the parade.

You are a fortunate bunch and I know you will revel in my presence.

Yours humbly,

The Queen of Pumpkins
